Gunmen stormed the ward giving ceremony and stole over 30 phones.

Four people including a woman have been killed in Nyanga, Cape Town on Sunday 28 April at night. Gunmen entered a shack in Lloyd informal settlement around 9pm and shot at five people who were inside.

Four died at the scene while the other one was rushed to the hospital while in critical condition.

Residents from the area are still shocked as they do not know the motive of the killings. “You never know who is next. This area is quiet, and we don’t normally encounter these kinds of things. I hope this is not the start of horrible things in our kasi,” said a concerned resident.

Nyanga Community Policing Forum secretary Dumisani Qwabe said Lloyd area is not associated with killings. He said the killing is a wake-up call for them to keep their eyes on every area.

“These are shocking developments for us. This was unexpected because Lloyd doesn’t give us problems about killings but petty crimes. We receive reports about smash and grab and house breaking cases from the area not mass killings,” said Qwabe.

He said most of the cases in the area are committed by young boys.

Police spokesman Colonel Andre Traut said detectives are out to hunt for the killers who are still on the run.
“The motive for the attack on the victims is yet to be determined and the suspects are still being sought by detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit,” said Traut.
He is also asking for anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stop on 08600 1011. People can also report using the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.
