Three prominent members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Mfuleni, Lubabalo Feketsha, Siya Fatyela, and Luyanda Mtsila, have been killed in Mfuleni. The incident happened in Shukushukuma informal settlement on Tuesday, August 29. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community.
According to a statement released by Unathi Ntame, the regional chairperson of the EFF, the three members were targeted by a local drug dealer. This is after the party’s Ward 108 Shukushukuma informal settlement Committee resolved to demolish the dealer’s house in retaliation for their illicit activities.
Reports suggest that the drug dealer had threatened the EFF members, leading to their fatal shooting. Feketsha and Mtsila died at the scene, while Fatyela succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Ntame, expressing his condolences on behalf of the party, described the loss as a devastating blow. He emphasized that the lives of the slain members were taken by the “bullets of the enemy of the people.” The EFF leader called for unity and solidarity within the community during these difficult times.
This incident follows just two weeks after the assassination of another prominent member of the EFF, advocate Ayanda Gladile, in Makhaza, Khayelitsha. These back-to-back tragedies have left the political landscape of the area reeling in shock and grief.
Ntame said the loss of Feketsha, Fatyela, and Mtsila has not only impacted their families, but it has also left the entire community in mourning. The EFF leaders have called on community members, friends, and loved ones to unite and find solace during these challenging circumstances.
Ntame said the party offers sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of Lubabalo Feketsha, Siya Fatyela, and Luyanda Mtsila.
